Going Off Gold

In consequence of the Catholic Party's refusal to support the Government economy measures the guilder is facing a crisis. The Netherlands Bank lost £7,000,000 in gold in a day, raising the rate to 5 per cent. Cabinet is postponing for twenty-four hours a decision as to whether it will resign or dissolve Parliament,

Tho Times’ city editor says the weakness in the guilder has spread to other gold currencies necessitating the intervention of the equalisation fund. The belief that Holland will abandon the gold standard resulted in rises in Unilevers, Royal Dutch and similar international shares.
