' The combined euchre tournament and concert in aid of the sports fund was held at the Maltowhai camp on Aionday night. Following the cards, a very enjoyable concert was presented, all items being well received. The items given were: Overture, air A.. Sasoni; trio (piano, violin and whistling), aiessrs S. Romeril, D. Watson and A. Watson; humorous sketch, "Home for Nervous Husbands”—well acted by aiessrs A. Sasoni, S. Romeril and A. Toomey; comic dialogue, aiessrs F. Helferen, A. Toomey, A. Sasoni, S. Romeril; duet (piano and violin), Aiessrs C. Watson, A. Sasoni); song, Air Hefferen; quartet, Messrs A. Sasoni, F. Hefferen, S. Romeril, AI. Pago. Air Sasoni, on behalf of the organisers, thanked thoso present for their support and expressed tho hope that tho coming functions would also be well patronised. Thoso winning most games of cards were Aiiss A. Newport and Air C. Imery. Consolation prizes were won by Airs Powell and Air Ryan. Air Frank Hefferen acted as AI.C. Rifle Club Dance. Tho Ohakea hall presented a gay appearance on Tuesday night on the occasion of the rifle club’s dance. A large crowd was present including visitors from Bulls, Sanson and other districts and fancy costumes together with carnival hats and streamers mado a pretty sight. Music was supplied by a professional orchestra and supper was served by tho ladies’ committee. Cards were played by non-dancers, those winning most games being Airs Taylor (Parewanui) and Air AI. Edwards. Consolation prizes wero won by Aiiss L. Flavell and Air L. Aieads. The prizes lor fancy dresses, judged by Airs C. Price and Aiiss Flavell, were won as follows: Best character costume, Miss P. Capstick; prettiest frock, Aiiss N. Ellery; Alonte Carlo dances wero won by Aiiss Rewiti and Air Aparana and Air and Airs J. Simpson, uring tho evening Air Rewiti contributed two clever tap dances and extras were contributed by Air I-I. Rewiti. Air 1. N. Leet (president) briefly thanked those present lor their assistance and presented the prizes won. Votes of thanks were accorded the judges of the costumes and the ladies who supervised tho supper arrangements. As a result of tho function, the club funds will benefit considerably. On Tuesday afternoon a hare-drivo was held over the properties of Airs J. Bailey and Mr J. Fagan. Good sport was experienced and a total bag of between 40 and 50 hares was obtained. Dr Elizabeth Gunn and Nurso O’Aleara visited the school on Wednesday to carry out tho periodical examination of the children.
