The course Avas rather on the heavy side but the Aveathcr conditions Avere good and some keen games were played, A-ictory going to tho visitors by 3 games to 6. Gun Club. Live sparrow shooting attracted a field of eleven at the shoot held by tlio Woodvilla Gun Club on Wednesday afternoon. The conditions were most unpleasant, a steady rain falling continuously throughout tho afternoon, and towards the latter part of tho afternoon tho light became so bad that it was nearly impossible to see the birds. However, the shooters were not discouraged and despite tho unfavourable conditions a good afternoons sport was enjoyed. Tho first match was an eight-bird contest and was won by G. L. Hartridgo with seven birds, R. G. Smith, F. D. Mackie, J. Martin and G. Morgan with six birds each dividing second money. This match was followed by another eight-bird event m which R. E. Johnston and J, T. Thorne divided the first and second sweep money with seven birds each. Tho afternoon's sport was concluded with a first nnss out matcli, this event being won by R. R. J, Mitchell, presiding over a largo numbei of members. Tho following report was submitted to tlio meeting:- Tho annual sports meeting was held as usual on Easter Saturday, the event be ‘ n = v ed with fine weather. Owing to tho Row Zealand championship being hold at liltoklno on tho same day we were unable to obtain a permit to hold chopping events There was a consequent saving in expenses but for. the samo reason there was cl decrease in the gate taKings. A last minute innovation was tho presence of tho Ruahine Pipe Band, which proved very popular with the crowd, u tho promised support is forthcoming, piping events may with profit he reinstated in next year’s programme. Entries in both horse and athletic events wero well up to standard and tho programme was run off without a hitch. Our thanks arc due to that body of horsemen from neighbouring districts who compete every year and assist greatly in making our meeting the success it is. Special thanks are duo to all those who so generously donated trophies to the club. At tho end of last year Mr. East, who had been our secretary for a number of years, resigned and Mr. D’A. Wareham was appointed to fill the vacancy.
