From Our Own Correspondent. The first meeting of the W.l.’s newlyformed garden circle was held at tho residence of tho convener, Mrs. Arthur Balcholar, on Wednesday. Those present were Mesdames McMahon. ,J. Lynuli, C. Terry, W. Gooch, E. Crawford, T. Lynch and Miss Young. Owing in lhe very rough day many ladies intending to attend wore absent. Plants and cuttings were exchanged and it. was decided that each member present plant several packets of seeds. Mis. Batchelar demonstrated the correct method of preparing seed boxes. A card party is to bo held at. Mrs. T. Lynch’s residence in the near future. A silver coin is to lie charged in raise a fund for the circle to be able to have a demonstrator or lecturer when required. A most instructive and enjoyable afternoon was brought -to a close with afternoon tea. A rose pruning demonstration is to be held at Mrs. Batchetar's residence before tho end of the present month. The Opiki school boys visited Linton School on Saturday to play a challenge match against the local team. Good play was put u)i by both sides but as the Opiki boys were the heavier team Linton boys suffered, defeat by -If) to nil. Mr. Whyte acted as referee. Mr. Aitchison conveyed the visitors and oil their beiialt rendered thanks for the kind hospitality extended to them. Master Non Beckett responded for his fellow players. Luncheon was served by Mr. Whyte and scholars. .Miss L. Irvine's friends will regret to hear she is confined t.o her bed with a bad attack of influenza. All wish her a speedy recovery. . Mrs. C.
