Auckland's Engineering School Threatened
APPEAL FOR ENDOWMENT FUND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night, la order to save the engineeringschool at Auckland University College, which is threatened with extinction at the end of tho year, further efforts are being made throughout the province to raise an endowment fund of £20,000 which is required unless the school is to close. As a result of his activities during the past six months, Mr. S. Irwin Crookes, a member of the University College Council, to whom the task of raising tho -necessary money had been delegated, has obtained promises of varying amounts totalling £OOOO. The staff of the school is under six months’ notice. Efforts arc now being made to have the Government’s decision reversed and a conference with tho present Minister of Education has been arranged and will bo held as soon as the Minister visits Auckland. He was expected to confer here with the educational authorities at the end of last month, but his visit was postponed. Advice of the date of his visit on educational matters is now awaited.
