Mr A. A. Mitchell was yesterday reappointed chairman of the ManawatuOroua driver Board for the next 1? months. A Gazette announces the appointment of Mr. Gcorgo Andrew Duncan to the Council of .Scientific and Industrial Research. ]Lon. J. A. Hamm, Chancellor of (he University of New Zealand, will present the diplomas at (ho annual graduation ceremony at Massey College next week.
The death has occurred of Mr. James Beattie, aged 1)5 years, a Southland pioneer who arrived in New Zealand in I Slid. Ho was one of the founders of the linn of Thomson and Beattie, ai; was an ex-Mayor of Gore. The late Mr. Beattie had an adventurous career. Lie came of long-lived stock, his mother’s father dying at the age of 105 years, an elder sister at the ago 1 1 97, and an elder brother at 95.
