REGENT THEATRE "SWEET ADELINE" "Sweet Adeline," Warner Eros.’ new musical spectacle and said to bo the most pretentious of all their gigantic specials, with Irene Dunne, famous stage and screen singing star, in the title role, opens at the Regent Theatre to-morrow. The picture is taken from the sensational Broadway hit by .leromo Kern and Oscar Hammerslein JI and is crammed with hilarious comedy, delightful romance and stirring- drama in addition to its gigantic specialty numbers. Unique dancing numbers are staged by Bob Connolly on novel and mommoth sets with scores of Hollywood's most beautiful girls taking part. The music of this operetta, written by the authors of the musical comedy, contains some of the most popular songs of the day. In addition to the eight in the original show, two new songs were written specially for the screen version. Live of these songs arc sung by Irene Dunne alone. Site sings two others with Phil Regan, tile singing cop of radio fame, who also sings one song solo. Dorothy Dare, Broadway musical comedy star, sings in a popular ballad, while Hugh Herbert and Nydia Wcstman will bo heard in a comedy duet. The picture is laid in the glamorous period of the gay nineties with the Broadway theatrical world as its setting. Irene Dunne has tiie role of a singer in her father’s famous Hoboken beer garden which is flic rendezvous of theatrical folk and New York’s young bloods and men about town. Donald Woods plays opposite her in the romantic role with Louis Calhern as his rival. Four of the lilm colony’s most talented comedians are said to give tho picture an hilarious comedy touch that is unequalled. They include Hugh Herbert, Nydia Wcstmau, Ned Sparks and Joseph Cawthorn. "There Goes Susie," the British Dominions release which will be at the Kosy Theatre to-day is a sparklingcomedy with romance and music. This cheery film presents genial Gene Gerrard as an impecunious artist in love with a wealthy soap manufacturer’s daughter. For patrons who enjoy a good song and plenty of sparkling comedy, here is entertainment of tho first water. Geno Gerrard appears as Andre Crochet, a noted artist, who falls in love with Madeline Sarteaux (daughter of a wealthy soap magnate), who pretends to ho a model. .Seeing- her with her father at a fashionable night club, the painter erroneously imagines Madeline is gold-digging, and to get even, flirts with Bunny, a perky cabaret girl. There follow excruciatingly funny complications, and one of tho most laughable episodes in tho lilm is that in which Andre Cochet’s bosom friend, a wine waiter, sub-lets his bedroom to Bunny, sleeping- liimself in a tiny attic. Bunny’s passion for smashing plates in trying to emulate it trio of jugglers, also causes much merriment. Geno Gerrard invests the rolo of Crochet with his customary charm, bringing all his well-known resource to tho role. Wendy Barrie is attractive and charming as Marelinc, and Gus McNaughton provides much fun as the faithful old servant and valet, whilst . Zelma O’Neal gives another first-rate original performance, with a laugh in every line of her dialogue. Others prominent in tho cast are Henry Wenraan as tho soap manufacturer, Gibb McLaughlin as tho publicity expert, and Mark Daly and Bobby Comber.

In Paramount’s picturraation of Zane Grey’s outdoor romance, "Home on the Range,” which is coming to tho Kosy Theatre to-morrow. Jackie Coogan and Evelyn Brent, both of whom have been away from the screen for a long lime, return, to Hollywood films again. Jackie Coogan, now a strapping, six foot man, makes his adult debut, and Miss Brent returns, after more than two years, in another of her typical "bad-girl” roles. Randolph Scott, Dean Jagger, Fuzzy Knight and Ann Sheridan are also featured. "Home on tho Range” deals with tho efforts of a band of smooth crooks to swindle Randolph Scott and his brother, Jackie Coogan, out of their ranch and racehorses. With the money from the sale of cattle stolen, and the mortgage

on his ranch in the hands of the ringleader, Scott seems in an unenviable position. Bui. the girl accomplice of the crooks, Evelyn Brent, falls in love with him and turns the table on them. With her aid Scott recovers the money stolen from him, although their lives are threatened by a forest fire set by the crooks. In tho final dramatic scene, Jackie Coogan rides their prize horse to victory in the big race, while Scott and Evelyn celebrate tho event by announcing their forthcoming marriage. Arthur Jacobson directed "Homo on the Range,” and Joe Morrison is heard singing the theme song throughout the picture. W. O. Fields with Baby Le Roy in Paramount’s riotous comedy, “It's a Gift,” is the second attraction.
