From Our Own Correspondent, Rugby Match.

The junior Rugby .match Rangiwaliia v. Apiti, at Apiti domain on Saturday afternoon, attracted a good attendance of football fans. Rangiwaliia kicked oif and after some very strenuous play Guthrie kicked a- penalty for Apiti. Shortly after this Rangiwaliia had a penalty hV:k and a very fine effort by Thompson just missed. At this stage Rangiwaliia were attacking strongly and looked like scoring when a mark by Cantwell relieved. Apiti now took a turn at attacking and an infringement gave Guthrie another chance which went astray. However, his luck was in and with his next kick he found tho uprights. Half-time found play in midfield and Apiti leading 6—o. After the lemons, both teams were working well and provided tho spectators with somo really good football. A penalty kick to Rangiwaliia was kicked by Thompson, Iho ball hitting the bar beforo going over. Apiti staged a good passing movement, •taking play to Rangiwahia’s 25, where Malone went out at the corner. From the line out, the ball came out to Pratt, who went over. The kick failed. Apiti 3—3. From tho kick off the visitors .Wept downfield, S. Thompson finalising the .movement with a well earned try. The kick went wide. 9—6. A spell of up and •dowii play followed and Signal added to Apiti’s score with a good try. Tho kirk ’missed 12—6. Osborne essayed a field' goal for Apiti but was unlucky, the ball striking the bar. Wright, Oroua Valley. Mrs. Hamilton, of 'Wanganui, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. N. K. Gould. Mr. AV. Hogan, and Mr. L. Gould, representing' Loyal Apiti Lodge, attended the funerai of tho late Bro. J. A. Newell, which took place last week in Levin. Salek Cup Competition.

Members of Loyal Kimboltou Oddfellows’ Lodge visited Loyal Apiti Lodge last Saturday evening for a competition for tho Salek Cup. Tho teams tied for euchre points but at ping pong tho visitors proved tho winners by 17 —14. Games, resulting in tho Salek Cup being trafisferred to the chargo of Kimboltou Lodge. Women’s Institute. Mrs. C. M. Stanley presided at the June Institute and a new member. Miss Cockburn, was elected. The suggestion, to change tho meeting day did not meet With approval, members preferring to continue with the first Tuesday or the month as the meeting day. It was decided that each member pay threepence towards cost of ingredients for the birthday cake. At next meeting thero will be a collection' box for donations to the King’s jubilee cancer fund, a worthy cause which members decided to assist. Mrs. Duncan senior received an interesting letter from our Scottish link, Strathkinner AV.I., which was read to members. Mrs. Stanley welcomed Mesdames anort and Barnieoat, our federation secretary and treasurer, and congratulated thenl on being re-elected to the North Federation. Mrs: Short thanked members and conveyed to them good wishes from Miss Grant, our Federation president, who hopes to tie able to visit Api.u later ,in tho year. MTb. Short then demonstrated tso making of sort toys. The menagerie on exhibition included the elephant, squirrel, cats, dogs, rabbits arid a bulldog, toys which made a great appeal to tho' tinies present. Mrs. Short also demonstrated tho making of various Christmas novelties to tho interested gathering/ Mrs. Barnieoat was very helpful in her comments on the various remits to bo discussed at the forthcoming AV.I. conference at . Auckland. Mrs. Barnieoat also • thanked' Apiti members for their good wishes and then extended congratulations to one of the members, Mrs. AV. M. Duncan, whose appointment as OroUa Group convenor was recently confirmed by tho federation executive. The visitors judged the competitions as follows: vase of berries and foliage, Miss J. Pettigrew 1, Mrs. AV. M. Duncan 2, Mrs. Pettigrew 3; plate of sausage rolls, Mrs. F. Munro 1, Miss Pettigrew 2, Mrs. A. Prince 3. Mrs. I J . Warnock was tho competitions steward. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames 'Pettigrew’ and Prince and Misses Pettigrew and D. Prince. R.S.A, v. Rifle Club. The Apiti R.S.A. and Rifle Club teams were fortunate to have a beautifully flue day on flic. King's Birthday for their annual shooting match. Thirty-three competitors took part in tho match which was won by the rifle club team with a total of 934 points against the R.S.A. score of SBO. Following were the scores: Rifle Club.—E. G.
