From Our Own Correspondent. There was a very largo attendance on Friday night at tho dance held in aid of the Catholic Church funds. Dancing was enjoyed to music by a popular orchestra, while euchre attracted enthusiasts in the card-room. The prizes for the euchre were won by Dir. I*. Hansen and Dir. James Teaz and Dliss Dyer and Dliss DI. Robinson. Dlonte Carlo dances were won by Dir. A. Robinson and Dliss DI. Sexton, and Dir. C. Donovan and Dlrs. L. Hancox, while the lucky door ticket was held by Mr. Hear (junior) and the framed picture was secured by Dlrs. J. Taylor. The Gospel hall, Rongotea, was file scene of a happy gathering on Friday evening when tho annual tea meeting was held. Visitors wero present from Palmerston North, Feilding and the surrounding district and some difficulty was experienced in seating tlie company, there being upward of 300 present. AA’licn tlio tables had been cleared away the Sunday School pupils were assembled and under tlio leadership of tho superintendent (Dll'. James Hunt), rendered a programme of gospel hymns and choruses. Recitations were given by Noel Lind, Dennis AVickham and Dlarjory Nutt. A hymn entitled "Cheerful” was very sweetly sung by Dlisses Dlarjory and Esme Lind, At tlie conclusion of the programme the opportunity was taken t.o say farewell to Dir. and Dlrs. E. Buchanan (missionaries), who are returning to India in a few days. Dir. N. F. Rowe briefly recalled several incidents of former days when ho and Dir. Buchanan were associated in evangelistic work. Dir. T. Lind, of Feilding, expressed the good wishes of tlie assembly towards the departing friends and commended them to God’s care and keeping. Dir. L. H. Yarl'all also wished Dir. and Dlrs. Buchanan all success in their unselfish ministry. Mr. Buchanan, in reply, thanked tho speakers and then addressed the children. Dlrs. Buchanan delighted iho juniors with the singing of “Jesus Loves Die" in Hindustani. The meeting closed with prayer. Each child present then received a final gift of fruit and sweets. A very enjoyable birthday party was held on Tuesday afternoon by tho Rongotea AVomens Institute. Visitors were present from a number of surrounding Institutes and with all business put aside, tlie afternoon was devoted to entertainment. Dlrs. I-I. V. Caverhill (president) welcomed everyone and read letters of apology from Dlrs. Patterson and Dliss DI. Grant, who were unable to be present. _ The programme thou commenced with a pianoforte duet “Nola” by Dlisses B. Ail'd and R. Tunnicliffe, which was followed by a paper tearing competition which was won by Dliss DI. Arnott. Next followet two vocal solos by Dlrs. Ronald Aird, "Speak to Die of Love" and "One Night of Love.” Dliss P. Hill recited “The Dog and tho Bee 1 ’ and "Inisfree.” Tho drama circle amused the audience with a playettc ‘‘Mechanical Jane,” thtose taking part being Dlrs. R. Scott, Dlrs. G. Hunt and Dliss A. Buchanan. Dlrs. Dafter contributed two items on the concertina. At the conclusion of afternoon tea, Dlrs. Caverhill called upon Dlrs. J. Glover senior to light the seven candles and Dliss Ngaire Dear, the newest member, to blow them out. Visitors from Sanson, Awahuri and Glen Oroua then thanked tlio Institute for their invitations, and birthday wishes. Dlrs. AViii, who has made or helped to make every birthday cake since tho Institute was formed, then asked Dlrs. Caverhill to accept, on behalf of the Rongotea AV.I., a banner with best wishes for the Institute’s continued success. The double-decker cake was then cut and passed round. .(After afternoon tea, a musical parcel game was enjoyed to music supplied by Dlrs. Glover and was won by Dlrs. DI. Will and Dlrs. R.- Aird senior. Mrs. Caverhill then called on Mrs. G. Ilpnt to come forward and accept a small gift in return for her good work rendered under adverse conditions, while Secretary Dlrs. Hunt briefly expressed her thanks.
