King's Silver Jubilee Celebration

FEILDING’S PROGRAMME BIG MUSTER OF CHILDREN EXPECTED Close upon 1200 children are expected to gather in Feiiding on Monday next to take part in tho celebrations associated with tho thanksgiving services in connection'with the King’s Silver Jubilee, and for this great assembly of young folk considerable organisation will' be necessary to ensure that their interests and welfare aro fully catered for. The committee dealing with tho arrangements have been busily engaged upon finalising the details connected with the parade of tho children at the service to be held in Manchester Square at 11 o’clock in tho morning. Tho duties of marshal will be undertaken by Major W. 11. McLean, D. 5.0., who has prepared a plan which will eliminate all confusion. Tho children will represent about forty schools of the district, and they will be paraded by school's under their masters.

The general committee controlling the celebrations have undertaken to provide the children with luncheon, and this task is being taken over by a special committee of ladies, with the co-operation of the members of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Women’s Institute. The Mayoress (Mrs C. E. Taylor) presided over a well-attended meeting of ladies on Monday, when arrangements for the luncheon, which will be held at Johnston Park, were finalised. It was decided to solicit gifts of fruit and plain fruit cakes to help swell the necessary provisions, and intending donors are requested to telephone 147 or 247 before noon on Friday next. Parents are requested to note that it will bo necessary for the children 1 o bring drinking utensils. The programme for the thanksgiving service to be held in the Squaro was finalised at a meeting presided over by the Mayor (Mr C. E. Taylor). The Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, has intimated his intention of being present to take part in the proceedings, and the guard of honour for the occasion will be provided by the Feilding High School Cadets. The programme finalised is as follows: — 1. Inspection of the guard of honour and parade of returned soldiers by the .Minister of Defence.

2. Hymn, “All People that on Earth do Dwell.” 3. The Lord’s Prayer. 4. Special prayer for the King. 5. Address by his Worship the Mayor (Mr 0. E. Taylor), to be followed by an address by Mr A. Campbell, chairman of the Oroua County Council. C. Hymn, “O God our Help in Ages Past.” 7. Address by the Minister of Defence. 8. National Anthem. All trailic through the Square will be suspended from 10.30 a.m., so that the service will not be interrupted. Immediately after the conclusion of the service the children will form up for the procession to Johnston Park, where they will be the guests of the Pending Borough Council and neighbouring local bodies at luncheon. Children in the infant classes will not take part in the procession, but will proceed to the park with their parents. After luncheon the afternoon will be devoted to entertainment, including folk dancing, competitions and games.
