Manawatu Scottish Society Holds Members’ Night

The first monthly members’ night of tho year of the Manawatu (Scottish Society was held in the Cosmopolitan hall on Saturday. An interesting programme had been arranged, there being Highland dancing competitions for the children, followed by concert items and old-time dancing. Mr. H. Hughes was M.C. for tho danciug, music being supplied by a professional orchestra. The competition results were as follow: — Highland fling, under 10, N. Cooper 1, Y. Nicholson 2; sword dance, under 13, B. Waller 1, M. Peterana 2; scantriubhas, under 15, L. Cronin 1, C. Henderson 2. Tho judge of tho dancing was Miss B. Evans. The arrangements were in tho hands of Mr. A. S. Cooper, and Piper Scott played the bagpipo music. At the presentation of tho trophies cards were issued to the dancers bear-

ing their weak points so that they' may be improved upon. Yocal solos were rendered by Miss N. Sutherland and Mr. C. F. Cronin, who were accompanied by the society’s honorary pianist, Mrs. I. R. Norris. Mr. J. Jenkinson thanked tho members and their friends for attending and expressed tno hope that they would attend future functions. Mr. Jenkinson also thanked Miss Evtuis for tho efficient way in which she carried out her duties as judge. Supper was served by tho ladies’ committee. Music for an extra waltz was played by M'rs.
