Cricket on Batsmen’s Wicket

NOMADS AND HIGH SCHOOL PLAY DRAWN G.AME In a game played yesterday on the School ground, tho visiting Nomad team led by Mr D. C. Collins, one-time captain of New Zealand and double blue, drew with Higli School. The weather was delightfully fino and the wicket proved a batsman’s paradise with the bowlers hard put to it to make any impression. Batting first Nomads knocked up 211 thanks to what eventually developed into a vigorous innings by the Raugitikci man. D. A. Cameron, whose total of 84 included a couple of sixers and ten 4’s. The match commenced before lunch and before the adjournment tho bowlers required to be carefully watched, the wicket being inclined to play tricks. The first tw.o wieketjiJ.'ell rather cheaply, but Bunny and Cameron raised the score to 50 for the third wicket. The scoring rate had quickened towards the end of the partnership, and from that on the visitors treated the spectators to some very bright cricket. Not one of them seemed to worry about throwing his wicket away and the total was raised to 21.1 before tho innings closed. With no time to waste the High School batsmen set about the task of getting runs. Ilearscy and Young rattled on 59 for the first wicket and then Young and Pollitt were at the wickets for tho rest of the afternoon, the total when stumps were drawn being 15S for one wicket, Young having played an excellent innings for 69 and Pollitt one for 35.

It was a most enjoyable day’s cricket and a “feather in School’s cap” was the remark passed by Captain Graham, of ILM.S. Diomede, that the fielding by (lie school team was the best and most alert he had witnessed in New Zealand.'
