Leap From Bridge
YOUNG WOMAN ENDS HER LIFE. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, March 20. Shortly after 7 o’clock this morning a young woman, name unknown, was seen to jump over the traffic bridge at Hamilton. The body which has not been recovered was seen floating down the river. Brave Attempt to Rescue WomaA Per Press Association. HAMILTON, March 20, A brave attempt to rescue the woman who jumped from the railway bridgo this morning was made by Mr AV. Tudhope, who noticed her plight and swam to her assistance. Mr Tudhopc, who lives on the .river bank, was told on the telephone by a friend further up the river that a woman was floating down the river. Calling out for help, Mr Tudhope immediately rushed down the steep bank from his house to the river, clothed in his pyjamas. He saw the woman floating down over three-quarters- ot' the way across the river and immediately plunged in and swam towards her. As he was -nearing her she sank twice and just before he reached her she sank again and did not reappear.
The woman’s name is understood to be Mrs P. Campbell, of Francis street, Gl'audelands.
