Chilled Beef Shipment Suspended
BRITAIN’S REPLY TO AUSTRALIA’S LATEST REQUEST United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 11 p.m. SYDNEY, March 20. Further shipment of chilled beef from Australia for arrival iu the United Kingdom before .June 00 was officially suspended to-day. The decision came as a complete surprise to exporters and the shipowners’ representatives. The Commonwealth had desired in connection with any quota for beef which might be specified now or in future, that there should be no differentiation between frozen and chilled. To this it is believed the British (lovernnient lias not agreed and, moreover, has suggested that, for the AprilJuno quarter, the exports of chilled beef should not exceed ."0,000 cwt. It is stated that the shipments already made approach Ho,ooo cwt. and that (lie suspension of further shipments is the British reply to Australia’s latest request. British Cattle Subsidy Bill LORDS ACCORD SECOND READING Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, March 19. In the House ol Lords the Cattle Subsidy Bill was read a second time after Lord Martcy had expressed doubt that any agreement, was possible between Britain, the Dominions and the Argentine.
