Excellent entries have been received for the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s junior tournament to be held on Saturday. Graham (Coroner) in the Palmerston North Courthouse yesterday morning an inquest was held into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ronald Walker Larsen, aged six months, whose parents reside at Glen Oroua. Medical evidence wont to show, that death had been due to an enlargement of the thymus gland. A verdict was returned accordingly. <s> <S> <s> <s> Rev. G. T. Brown, until recently minister of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, has been travelling and studying in England and Scotland for some months. Last October ho received a unanimous call lo St. Columba’s, Brechin, Scotland, which he accepted, and was inducted in December. Mrs and Miss Margaret Brown, have arrived and have joined him in Brechin. <*>.<s> <•> <s> Mr A. W. Thompson, -who has been president of the Manawatu Rugby Football Uniou for the past two years, did not seek rc-clection at last evening’s annual mooting. He was accorded a vote of thanks for past services and in replying to the compliment, Mr Thompson mentioned that he had attended practically every' match played in Palmerston North in the last £1 years. <s> <•> «> <3> Mr H. F. Gibbons, of Taumarunui, who has been patron of tho Manawatu Rugby Union for many years, was able to be present at. last evening’s annual meeting of the union and was accorded a hearty welcome. The chairman (Mr A. W. Thompson) referred to the interest Mr Gibbons always took in the welfare of the Manawatu Union and the fact that their patron had been, in his time, a very keen player. Mr Gibbons, in acknowledging the welcome, said he was always ready to do all lie could for Rugby. <s> <S> <•> & A certain resident of the city, lately recovered from a severe illness, was during his convalescence looking at the world through a window. Among the traffic there chanced to pass a hearse. About half an hour later the same hearse repassed, going in the opposite direction. Twice more in the same afternoon tho sinister vehicle passed by the convalescent’s window, until, visibly impressed, he called his wife and annouuced that tho undertaker must surely be looking for him, and had failed to find tho house! The effect was at least not a tonic one. <*> •s><s> <3> In regard to the municipal elections to be conducted on May 1 the Mayor of Palmerston North (Mr. A. E. Mansford) lias so far given no intimation concerning his iutentions. Mr. H. B. Free is not seeking re-election as a city coucillor, while Mr. W. H. Brown may possibly relinquish his seat. It is generally accepted that Mr. J. Hodgctis will be standing. His candidature and that of Mr. P. V. Burns for the Hospital Board, lias been endorsed by the Terrace End branch of the Labour Party. Air. G. Tremaine and Air. AV. B. Cameron will be standing, likewise Messrs W. B. Tennent, A. A. Langley and W. Aiouldey for tho council. A councillor and member of the Hospital Board, Air. R. L. C. Aitchison will be seeking re-election in both those positions. For 1-1 years a member of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, on which she has given valuable service as tho only woman member, Airs. L. A. Abraham, who has for some time been in indifferent health, will not be seeking re-election, but another candidate coming forward is Mrs. AI. Aitchison, J.P. Mrs. Aitchison has been a member of the High Schools Board of Governors for some time, is closely identified with tho Plunket Society and District Nursing Guild, and is well-known as a member of various public organisations in the city. Both Alessrs \V. L. Fitzherbert and M. A. Eliott will be seeking re-election as district members of the Wellington Harbour Board.
