With a total rent-roll of over £2,500,000, the London .County Council wrote off as irrecoverable bad debts only £3,791 in the last financial year.

Several Welsh mountains are on the move following heavy rain, and great damage is feared. A great stretch of territory above Ystalyfcra, Glamorgan, is on the move, and miniature landslides have occurred, partially blocking the main Swansea-Brecon road. A concrete wall was erected some time ago to prevent the mountainside from collapsing, but it is feared that this barrier will be insufficient. The mountain of Trocdyhiwfuwek has also shown further signs of moving, and villagers in the valley below fear that it may overwhelm them. Subsidences have also been reported at Wattsvillc, Mon •mouthshire, and houses are in danger of collapsing. This is believed to be due to the collapse of underground mine working. Streets are being held iip by heavy timbers.
