Southern Hawke’s Bay Croquet Tournament
Play in the Southern Hawke’s Bay croquet championship at Dannevirke reached tho semi-finals in several sections on Monday. In tho fourth round of tho handicap singles Miss E. Card (Featherston) beat Miss Tennant (Palmerston North), 26 —16, but Miss Tennant beat Mrs McCarthy (Woodville) in the Southern Hawke’s Bay ladies’ singles, 26 —21. On Saturday a gathering was held at tho Rangatira Croquet Club’s lawns, where the gftmes were played, to celebrate the club’s coming-of-age. A birthday cake was cut and visitors to the tournament presented a birthday cup to tho club, the . trophy to be for annual competition among its members in a handicap' singles event.
