At Wollongong Leslie Eldred Keene, aged IS, was sentenced to penal servitude for life for having attempted to cause poison to bo taken by Cecil L. Ulrich, tit Berry, with intent to murder. It was stated iu evidence that Ulrich tasted porridge at breakfast and after remarking that it had a bitter flavour, warned his family not to eat it. The porridge was given to two dogs, which died.

From the dock accused said ho knew the poison was bitter and would be impossible to swallow. He only intended to frighten llio Ulriches. The jury recommended that Keene bo placed under observation. The Judge said that, if any report were made which favoured Keene, it would be for the Governor, and Executive Council to take what action it thought tit, but he could not take other than a serious view of a man who was prepared to administer poison to three innocent persons and see them die in agony.
