Bigamy Charge Admitted
COMMITTAL TOR SENTENCE Ter Press Association. ■ AUCKLAND, March 4. Maitland John Lee Smith Sinclair, aged 39, a wool grader, was committed fpr sentence .to-day on a charge of bigamy. He admitted having been married in 1925 at Hastings to Lillian Beddingfield and that he went through a form of marriage with a young woman in Auckland on January 29 last. His Wife gave evidence that he told her he was a widower with one child. In 193.1 she discovered he had four children and that he was posing as a single man and making love to a widow. She then secured a separation order and an order for .the maintenance of herself and their two children. He had not paid her very often. * A woman of 22, who went through a form of marriage, said that after eight days sho discovered accused was married already and left him. In a statement to the police, accused said lie was very much in love with the young Woman and was afraid that if he told her the truth lie might lose her; that was the only reason why he went through the form of marriage. Prisoner did not apply for bail.
