Car Stalls on Railway Line
STRUCK BY EXPRESS AND EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A small motor-car which stalled on the railway line at a crossing a nule from I’aeroa and resisted the best efforts of three women to push it clear, was damaged extensively when it was struck by the Auckiand-Taneaiua express. The driver, Miss Turner, of Waihi, her mother and a friend, who had alighted to attempt to push the car from the lines, were unhurt. The car stalled on the line shortly befo-e the train reached the crossing. KiirJnig it impossible to push the machine to safety, the women jumped clear as the train bore down on them. The engine struck the front part of the car, winch was overturned by the collision. The train stopped in about its own length and an inspection showed that the locomotive was not damaged.
