From Our Own Correspondent. Last Friday evening an enjoyable dance was held in aid of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade. There were quite a number present from surrounding districts. Mr. lteg. Holford was'pianist for the evening and Mr. P. Jensen and Mr. R. Graham M.C.’s. A tin of biscuits which was raffled for the funds was won by Miss Nancy Eagle. The cake which was made for the Sunday School children was drawn by Miss Molly McGlashan. Mrs. Welsh of Nireaha stayed with her mother, Mrs. Barnes, last week. Heavy rain fell over the week-end and although badly needed, is rather a setback for the shearing which was in full swing. ‘ Mrs. Turner and Miss Thompson return shortly, from a visit to Taihape. Cricket, Sandon met Feilding U. at Kowhai Park on Saturday. An interesting game ended in a two point win for Sandon. Sandon batting first put on 104. Feilding replied with 74. Sandon in their second innings totalled 06, thus leaving the home side with 97 to get in 30 minutes. Feilding had 70 on when stumps were drawn. Rifle Club Dance. The Miniature Kifle Club season was concluded with a dance on Friday night. There was a moderate attendance and a happy time was spent. Competitions conducted during the evening were won as follows:—Monte Carlo, Miss Frecklington and Mr. M. Pearce; lucky Gay Gordton, Miss Z. Bishop and Mr. E. Lumsden; Monte Carlo, Miss Hart and Mr. Cottingham, lucky number. Mr. H. Ellery and K. G. Lumsden. Extras were played by Mrs. E. Butler, and Mr. Speight. Supper was served under the direction of the ladies. Mrs. K. M. Pearce apologised for the absence of Mr. J. Fagan (president of the club) and Mr. A. K. Drew, president of the Manawatu Association. He asked Mr. Henry Ellery (president of the Ohakea. club) to present the trophies won during the year. Mr. Ellery congratulated the club and members on their success. The trophies won were as follow: N.Z. Championship Cup, Gold Medal and Miniature Cups (2), Mr. Ken Lumsden; Wanganui Championship Cup, Mr. Ken Lumsden; Nobel Cup, Lumsden family, handed to Mr. Roy Lumsden; Manawatu B Grade aggregate cup, Mr. Percy Gedye; club championship Cup, Mr. Ken Pearce; club B Grade championship cup, Mr. P. M. Gedye; Mr. C. E. Bailey’s trophy, Mr. G. Richardson; Mr. G. Richardson’s trophy, Mr. Percy Gedye; Fagan buttons, (A Grade) Ken Lumsden; (B Grade) E. Lumsden; (C Grade) J. Meyer.
