Social and Dance at Te Arakura

A very successful function took place on Friday evening, -when tlio Women’s Institute held a social and dance. Many visitors were present from Milson, lalmerston North, Feilding, Awahuri and Aoxangi, everyone going home with happy faces after a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The stage was beautifully decorated with aruin lilies, Iceland poppies,* roses and tritonias. Mrs. A. Griffith (president) welcomed the visitors and announced the items. An excellent programme consisted of a pianoforte duet by Nola Hume and Billy Cleaver; 3ongs, Miss Gladys Cameron; recitation and dance, Zoo Eabone: elocutionary items by Misses Freda Whittaker and Julia Kenrick; monologues by Mr. H. J. Dewe and Miss M. Armour; tap dances by Mr. Allen; novelty item, “John Hdnry and Blossom,” Mr. H. J. Dewe and Miss M. Armour; a pianoforte duet by Mr. Pearce and Miss Armour, and a yodelling solo was given by Mr. C. Knrehana. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. 11. B. Clapham, Mr. Palmer and Mr. Penehira. The audience was appreciative throughout and encores were freely given. The Milson Women’s Institute staged a humorous play entitled “Mr. John, which was keenly enjoyed. The playeis were: Misses B. Clapham, Prentice and Terry, Mesdames Britton, Gilbert and Oliver. Mrs. F. G. Murphy was the producer. The programme concluded with an enjoyable community sing led by Mr. A. Feeney at the piano. Supper was served by an enorgetid committee, after which the rest of the evening was spent in dancing. The music was supplied by Mr. A. Feeney at the piano, while Mr. D. Lewer acted as M.C. A competition for a cake and box of chocolates (donated by Mrs. Steele and Mrs. F. Bussell) was won by Mr. F. Baxter and Mr. A. Griffith respectively. Thanks are due to all performers who gave their services so willingly to help make the evening a success.
