Motor-cyclists Hold Reliability Trial
ORION CLUB’S OUTING The Orion’Motorcycle Club's annual trial to Wanganui and return for the Bruce and Bai cup was hold during tho week-end. Only eight riders competed. The course was from Palmerston North to Askhurst and Feilding via Bunnythorpe. Prom Feilding the routo was to Halcombo and over tho Kakariki bridge to Croftou, from wlioro the main road from Bulls to Wanganui was joined. Tho competitors lunched at Wanganui and after a short stop set out on the homeward journey which was over a different route. The main road was followed to' Turakina, where a detour was made through the Turakina Valley down to Marton. The main road was joined north of Bulls and was followed for tho remainder of the journey. The results were as follow, the figures represent the points lost on the outward and return journeys:— R. Ballinger, 24—89—113 points lost, 1 and Bruce and Bai cup and replica. H. Robson, 15—117—132 points lost, 2 and gold medal. F. Mitchell, 21—128—149 points lost, 3.
Also started: J. Manning, 32—127 159 points lost; J. Woodland, 78—126 204 points lost; D. Wingate, 91—122 2.13 points lost; D. Collison and E. Pink. The course was a comparatively easy ono so that members could avail themselves of an opportunity of taking pillion and side-car passengers. Although heavy vain fell in Palmerston North the riders only encountered several light showers and had returned to Palmerston North when the heavy rain set in. Tho average speeds sot for the various portions of the route were slow and consequently every competitor was behind time on the outward journey. On tho return journey the lateness was more noticeable and the losses of points were high indeed.
