A gang of amateur thieves were busy at Christchurch on Saturday morning. A number of city business premises were entered in clumsy fashion, but little was gained. The main damage was to shop doors and equipment. So far the following premises are known to have been entered: P.D.Q., quick lunch kitchen and W. W. McKinney, Ltd., opticians, Gloucester street; A. G. Sherwood and Co., vulcanisers, Cashel street; and tho Boomerang Petrol Station, owned by Air. P. C. Webb, ALP., Worcester street.
At a general meeting. of, the Local Government Loans Board 26 applications for sanction to raise loans totalling £564,245 were ■ dealt with. Loans amounting to £478,600 w< sanctioned, including £22,300 in renewals and £-156,300 for new. works. The balance were either referred back to the local bodies concerned for further consideration, or declined. The progress of local body debt conversion was also continued when applications wore dealt with. Existing securities totalling £954,011 wore affected and, after the utilisation of the sinking fund and adding premiums where appropriate, sanction to conversion into new securities to a .total of £916,898
