False Pretences Charges Against Aucklander
SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT Three charges of false pretences were preferred against William Albert John Kitteridge, aged 3S, of Auckland, in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North, and pleading guilty, he was sentenced to ono month’s imprisonment on each charge, the terms to bo cumulative. He was faced with (1) intent to defraud at Palmerston North on October 26 by falsely representing that an order signed by Kenneth William Hansen was genuine and with obtaining £3 3s 4d from James Watson Birnie on it; (2) that on October 26 he falsely represented that an order, signed by Clyatt Glen Ellis Lawrenco was genuine and obtained on it from Richard Algernon Bagnall £3 3s 7d, and (3). that on October 26 by falsely representing that an order signed by Percy Jewell was genuine obtained from Richard Algernon Jewell £3 3s 7d. Mr Opie appeared for accused and Senior-Detective Quirke explained that accused had been travelling for a home-made ointment and had secured orders from country storekeepers. Accused had altered these for larger amounts before presenting them, and had thus left the Arms with larger quantities than they desired.
