The second match-in the Hunter Shield series was concluded at AVoodvllle on Saturday afternoon, the opposing teams being AVoodville and Danevirke. At the conclusion of the first day’s play Dannevirks had a lead of 11 runs on the first innings and AVoodville had lost one wicket for 27 runs in their second innings. Continuing batting, AVoodville knocked up 11S runs, tho principal scorers being C. Gallon 24, P. Brandon 23, J. Power 17 and J. Charles 11 not out. H. Pickard, bowling for Dannevirke, accounted for five wickets in 12 overs for the small total of 17 runs. Requiring 10S runs for an outright win, the Dannevirke batsmen failed badly before the bowling of W. Mali- and J. .Power who, bowling unchanged, accounted for nine wickets in 11 overs, the remaining batsman being run out, and the whole side dismissed for the small total of 45 runs. The AVoodville High School team travelled to Dannevirke on Saturday and played the Dannevirke High School on the school grounds, the match resulting In a win for Dannevirke by 28 runs on the first innings. Batting first, Dannevirke compiled 76 runs, Edwards 27, Senk 14 and Rowe 10 being the chief scorers. Bowling for AVoodville, Anderson took five wickets for 24 runs, L. Bailey 4 for 11 and Patterson 1 for 33. AVoodville replied with 48 runs, of which J. Beale contributed 27, the only batsman to reach double figures. Stokes took 3 wickets for 3 runs, Naish 2 for 2, AVright 3 for 28 and Edwards 2 for 8. In their second Innings Dannevirke declared with 78 runs for 3 wickets, Senk not out 38 and Wright not out 21 batting nicely. At the drawing of stumps AVoodville had 63 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets, L. Bailey 23, Patterson 20 and Anderson 16 being the rungetters. Tennis. Playing in the Manawatu Tennis Association’s Inter-club matches the WoodvlUe B grade team journeyed to Bunnythorpe and were defeated by tho local team by nine matches to seven.
