CR. J. HODGENS WANTS TO KNOW Two watercarts owned by tho City Council have been endeavouring during tho recent spell of dry weather, to cope with many miles of dusty streets within the city but as two carts cannot go a very long way in tho course of a day, some streets have been missed much to the chargrine of housewives trying to cope with the dust nuisance inside their houses. Cr. Hodgens declared that one street had not seen a watcrcart this year and surely they could water every street at least once a week. The engineer (Mr. J. It. Hughes) said the carts were kept very busy and lie had been pestered with continual telephone calls for the carts. All lie could do was his best. Cr. Free asked if the carts were tractor-drawn, the engineer saying one of them was. Cr. Free said that to hitch draught horses to tho carts was like doing tho job in slow motion. Residents of Bourko street asked for tar-sealing to allay tiie (lust and the request was referred to the estimates. The Mayor remarked that the closing of Waldegravc street during reconstruction had probably diverted extra traffic into Bourke street.
