Feilding Acclimatisation Society

MEETING OE THE COUNCIL On Tuesday evening the council of the Feilding and District Acclimatisation Society met, Mr F. H. Stockwell (chairman) presiding. There -were also present Messrs W. J. Alps, W. Waugh, E. Ingram, P. P. Stevens, B. E. Durant, C. J. Wickham, N. Itosoman, T. Burne, E. H. Lange, J. Hurdle and D. G. Fraser. A letter was received from the Hawera society stating that it did not propose to proceed any further with tho proposal for an art union, and the chairman remarked that it did not. appear that anything further could be done in the matter. Discussing a circular letter from the. Department of Internal Affairs regarding next shooting season, tho council resolved to support an open season with a licensee fee of £1 and a bag limit of 15 ducks. In this connection it was decided, at the instanco of Mr Fraser, to open tho Mangaono block for shootists next season. It was also agreed to fix a limit of three pheasants per day per gun and to ask for a short open season for the shooting of pukeko. Members spoke of the depredations of seagulls on trout, and it was stated by Mr° Fraser that theso birds were not protected when three miles from tho sea coast, and therefore where they were found taking trout they should be destroyed. To put a stop to tho practice of fishing by torchlight in. the Oroua river the council decided to appoint Mr Fraser to patrol the river for a few nights to check this improper taking of trout.
