Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LITTLE AMERICA, Nov, 13, The tractor party exploring the heart of the Ross ice barrier has reported continued difficulty in breaking through, the crevasse area south of latitude 81, The objective is to determine if a sealevel depression connects Ross and Weddell Seas at a position not far eastward and southward from where the party now is. One of the two tractors was almost -wrecked and dropped into a. blind six-foot deep crevasse, but the crew was able to salvage it. Meanwhile the Marie Byrd Land sledging party in encountering blizzards and poor visibility in its efforts to make its way from Mount Grace McKinley to the coast.
