Big Meeting to Open To-day OVERSEAS STARS IN ACTION United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 11.10 p.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 14. The greatest golf meeting ever staged in the southern hemisphere, the Centenary championship tournament, will open on Thursday. The entries total 130, including 11 United States professionals, five British amateurs and live New Zealanders (one amateur iind four professionals). Tlio prize-money for the professionals is £3OOO, with trophies for the amateurs. One thousand pounds goes to the first professional. The first tlirco days will be occupied with the open championship—stroke play over 72 holes. The amateur championship will begin on Monday aud the professional on Wednesday. The American contingent is expected to provido the most interesting golf ever seen in Australia. Sarazen, Kirkwood, Ezer, Thompson and Smith came independently of Runyan, Shute, Wood, Diegel, Cooper and Laffoon, the official team representing tho United States Professional Golfers’ Association. There are live British amateurs — Hon. Michael Scott, McLean, Garnett, Bourn and Beaumont-Pcase.
