SITTING AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

Further business was transacted yesterday by tho Road Transport Licensing Authority, which continues its sitting at Palmerston North to-day. Messrs, W. I. Armstrong (chairman) and S. Jickell wero on the Bench. Mr. G. A. Troup, the third member of the authority, was absent owing to a slight indisposition.

In giving its reserved decision in tho case in which Mr. F. L. Farr, of Palmerston North, had applied for a renewal, tho authority refused to grant a license on the grounds that the evidence tendered was unsatisfactory.

A further reserved decision was made iu respect to tho Edwards Transport Service, of Otaki. Permission. was granted the applicant to add general goods to his load when transporting benzine to Taihape. Three trips monthly arc to be allowed up to a total load of 25 cwt.

A license to carry live-stock within 20 miles of Peilding and to carry general goods to farms was granted Mr. G. Yallancc, of Foilding. Applicant mainly carried pigs and calves, Mr. T. F. Fitzgerald submitted. On behalf of Feilding carriers, Mr. A. J. Geary pointed out that there were moro licenses in the district than it could support, and ho opposed the granting of tho license for that reason. To Mr. W. Schierning, representing tho Railway Department, Mr. Fitzgerald explained that 95 per cent, of the carrying was made to the railway. To allow them to carry farm goods with two lorries in the Kiwitea, Poliangina, Oroua, Manawatu, Rangitikci and Kairanga counties, Messrs. J. R. Waldin and A. E. Waldin, of Feilding, asked for a new license. For the applicants, Mr. D. C. Cullinane submitted that permission was being sought consequent upon a change mado by certain stock firms from droving to tho transport of live-stock by lorry. A guarantee was given by Mr. J. E. "Waldin that the servico would bo a feeder to tho railway. Mr. Geary objected to the license on tho grounds that there were sufficient heavy lorries in the district to handle tho proposed traffic. Evidence was given by Mr. D. It. Stewart, of Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Coy., Ltd., that the firm would give the applicants all the business available. Mr. CF. Currie opposed the license being granted in respect to the Pohangina county. Mr. Henry Garlick, on behalf of Messrs. Sims, Cooper and Co., stated that there would bo a largo increase in the carriago of live-stock as tho Meat Export Coy., in addition to his company, would bo using lorries. Mr. Schierning opposed the granting of the liccnso and Mr. W, Berry, traffic inspector for the counties, gave evidence to the number of lorries already operating in the districts. Decision was reserved until this morning.

Application was next made by Mr. Ronald George Harford, of Feilding, who was granted a license over a 20milo radius in respect to a mail /Contract and tho carriago of parcels over 12S miles in the Colyton, Feilding and Kakariki area.

Messrs. Burke Bros., of Bangiwahia (Mr. Onglcy) applied for a 3-ton license and that it be extended to Palmerston North from Bangiwahia. It was for carrying butter and to take general merchandise back to the factory and storo from the city. The authority granted the request. Mr. Henry George Bailey, of Bangiwahia, was granted an increase of scwt. carrying capacity. An increase in weight to 4 tons and an extended radius was granted in the case of Messrs. Lane and Kenyon, of Feilding. Mr. A. L. Bonne (Mr. Yortt), of Dannevirkc, requested amendments to his license to enable him to carry lambs and general merchandise, this being approved. Mr. Thomas Henry King, of Shannon, applied for a license to carry pigs and farmers supplies in the Manawatu and Horowhenua districts. This was granted. A transfer of the liconso from Messrs. Price and Thomas, of Shannon, to Messrs. Morlcy and Thomas was also granted. Mr. A. J. Halford (Mr. Lloyd), of Dannevirkc, was granted a licenso, the authority giving effect to the decision of the Transport Co-ordination Board in the appeal of the applicant from a previous decision of tho authority. Mr. John L. Boss was granted a licenso for carrying parcels in addition to newspapers and mail. A condition was that no delivery was to bo made between Feilding and Apiti, with the. exception of those for Kimbolton Stores.

Young, Young and Coy., of Hirnatangi, was refused a licenso to carry goods. Mr. S. Sharp, of Bulls, was granted a license to carry mails.
