WIN BY FIFTEEN LENGTHS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—C opy righ t. TORONTO, Sept. 5. In the final for the world’s sculling championship, H. R, Pearce (Australia) defeated Bill Miller (U.S.A.) by fifteen lengths. The time was 19 minutes 52 seconds. Conditions favoured Pcarco at the start, as ho had the protection of the seawall against the wind, and he jumped into a short lead. Alii lor caught him at 50 yards and both held together, Miller using tho faster stroke from 2S to 30, gaining a slight lead, but Pearce, never varying his 20 strokes to the minute, pulled even, and half-way down the first leg commenced cutting out into the lead, near the end of tho first mile, opening out with 21 yards advantage. Pearce increased his stroke to 28 on the second lap and seemed to be rowing well within himself. Miller also seemed strong, but Pearce finished the second lap with a tremendous burst of speed, starting homeward with seven lengths advantage. Both made the second turn in five strokes, but Miller seemed well beaten, nearly fifty yards open water separating them from then on. Miller tired, but Pearce, increasing his lead in every stroke, won in comparative ease by fifteen lengths.
