Feilding Bowling Club

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Fcildiug Bowling Club was held last evening, Mr. J. S. Tingey presiding over a good attendance. In moving the adoption of the general report, the chairman referred to the success of Messrs. "White, Ncsbit, Wcnhani and Neilson in winning the champion of champions rink competition at Palmerston North during the past season. Mr. Tingey went on to review the finances of the club and stated that while subscriptions were less, and donations were not as strong as iu previous years, generally speaking, and the club despite adverse conditions had come through the year very well. The club was very fortunate in having in its membership a number of members who w-ere most generously disposed to watch the welfare of tho club; and their gratuitous help had been a big factor in maintaining the strength of the institution, and in effecting various improvements, which Avould otherwise have not been done. Mr. Tingey also paid a tribute to tho ladies for their every generous help. Referring to the balance-sheet, Mr. G. Bartholomew expressed the view that the Ladies’ Croquet Club should be called upon to pay more towards the cost of tho upkeep of tlio croquet lawns, at the same time reminding members that there would bo an additional croquet green to maintain next year. To -encourage membership tho speaker felt that the subscription should be reduced.

According to Mr. J. W. Bramwell, it would not be a simple matter to increase the chargo to tho ladies, since most of them were the wives of bowlers, and further, the ladies were responsible for much revenue to the club, through tho mediums of afternoon teas and card evenings. He knew that the ladies realised all that the men had done for their game and that they were ready to give the utmost financial support, was demonstrated in their decision to increase their subscription this year. Mr. J. E. Barltrop did not see how the subscription of bowlers could be reduced. It was low enough now by comparison with other clubs, and for the benefits ottered the fee was by no means exorbitant. Concluding tho discussion, the president said that had not the club had the assistance of tho ladies during the past four or five years it would have been in financial difficulties. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follow: —President, Mr. A. G. Murcli; vice-president, Mr. C. M. Sargisson; lion, secretary, Mr. J. E, Barltrop; hon. auditor, Mr. T. S. Goldsmith; committee. Messrs. W. H. Duncan, .T. Edelstcn, F. J. Allen, J. \Y. Bramwell, E. May, A. Williamson, F. Moore, -T. S. Tingcy, and Bartholomew; delegates to Manawatu Bowling Centre, Messrs. 0. MeElroy and J. Bartholomew. In consideration of his life-long services to the club, Mr. -J. Bartholomew was unanimously elected a life member. It- was decided to forward a letter of thanks 1 1 Mr. A. M. Wimsctt, secretary of the Manawatu Bowling Centre for his donation of a set of bowls ns a trophy for tho club's colts' competition. Air. Barltrop received the warm thanks, of the meeting in announcing his intention to donate his honorarium to the club.
