Bobby Calves

(To the Editor.) Sir, —While reading your valuable paper I noticed an appeal by the Pig Marketing Association to the dairy farmers of New Zealand to support them in carrying on the bobby calf industry. The association points out the seriousness of the situation, but the farmers appear to be quite unconcerned. It would appear that the farmers somehow prefer to support the foreign company, and let their own companies sink or swim. Now, Sir, being one of those dozens thrown out of work, I would like to remind the dairy farmer that by killing their own calves or supporting the foreign companies they are only heaping coals on their own head. Wc so often hear the cry of the farmers: “Ea,t more butter” and

"Drink more milk.” Now, Mr Farmer, support your own country, and wo New Zealanders will be able (o buy more butter instead of just the smell. Also we will be able to buy some of your cow beef. - In Palmerston North alone indirectly 38 men have been thrown out of work, and I understand a further ten men will be put off next Tuesday, all because the farmers refuse to support New Zealand industry.—l am, etc., RAP HEAP.
