Mrs Hannah Smith, mother of Mr C. Stanley Smith, managing director of the Dunedin Evening Star, died last week, aged 00 years. She was the only surviving daughter of the family of six daughters and one son of Mr George 8011, who purchased the Star in 1809 and in 1595 formed the Evening Star Company, Ltd., with members of his family as shareholders.

Dr. and Mrs W. Hunter Will, of Palmerston North, are intending to visit tho Continent, and to tour England and Scotland by motor-car (states a London correspondent under date, June 21). The Y.W.C.A., Broadway, was the sceno of another successful social and dance last Saturday, held by the Manawatu Scottish Society, when members and numerous friends gather-' ed to enjoy a well-arranged pro-' gramme. The initial part of the evening was devoted to competitions in Highland dancing, tho prize-winners of -which w-ere:—Sword dance, under 15,' J. Hall 1, E. Henimingscu 2; Highland reel, under 13, M. Peteraua .1, C. Henderson 2; seantruiblias, M. Symo 1, N. Cooper 2. Mr E. liaeburn was the judge and Piper Scott provided the accompaniments. Oid-time dancing was then indulged in to music supplied by Miss E. Thompson and Messrs J. B. Thompson and S. Wood, while music for extra dances was supplied by Mrs Bungay and Piper Scott. Mri‘ A. S.
