Foxton

Mr. and Mrs. G. Judd, who have left Foxton to take up their residence at Koputaroa, were the guests of honour at a social evening tendered them by members of the Presbyterian Church and Ladies’ Social Guild, at the' residence of Mr. and Mrs. IB N. Speirs, Robinson street, on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Speirs, assisted by the Misses A. and N. Speirs, and Patterson, were the hostesses, and all present spent a most enjoyable time, the evening being whiled away with games and competitions interspersed with much appreciated vocal items by Miss J. Stevenson and Mr. B. Macpherson. At a suitable juncluro the Rev. A. Fotheringham referred to the activities of Mr,, and Mrs. Judd in local church affairs, the former as a member of the board of managers, and the latter as a member of the Radies’ Social Guild. He said that although the guests were leaving Foxton, they were not severing their church connection. On behalf of the congregation and guild, he asked them to accept a token of esteem in the form of a dinner wagon, tray cloth and afternoon tea plates. M. Judd acknowledged the expressions and token of goodwill, and expressed surprise at the gifts. He assured those present that his wife’s and his own associations with the church had been of a very happy nature and he would be pleased to entertain them should they visit their home. Tho guests were then accorded musical Honours. Another pleasing ceremony during the evening was the cutting ol tho Guild’s 24th birthday übo by the guild president, Mrs. M. E PoiTeau, who intimated that the cake, wnten v.’as artistically decorated and iced, was the generous gift ot Hr'. Rowe, of llongotea,. aunt of Mrs. R. N. Speirs. . . ' , .. . A delicious supper was dispensed, and the evening closed with musical honours to the guests and hostesses. Diggers'. Concert. The entertainment' staged by the Buffs Digger Concert Party in the Town Hail oh Tuesday evening in aid of the Foxton Returned Soldiers’ Association funds, was witnessed by a good house. The items .were all well received, "The Buffalo AVomen’s Institute” and step dancing numbers proving the most popular. The performers were subsequently on - tentained at supper by members of the Foxton committee.
