From Our Own Correspondent. 'Che annual meeting o£ trie Foxton High School Old Pupils’ Association, was held on Thursday evening, when Mr. -U o. Davey (president) presided over a attendance of. members, thei balance sheet disclosed a credit of >1- 43 Members expressed gratification at tne healthy state of the association s which was considered remarkably t»ooa for the first year’s operations. Tne president reviewed the past year s activities, and stated that the association had experienced a very successful year since Its inception. The president paid a tribute to the valuable services of Miss .). Thynne (lion, secretary) whose untiring efforts on behalf of the association were greatly appreciated. A special vote of thanks wa3 accorded Mr. Kobbie for ma valuable assistance. The president also thanked all those who had in any way holped the association. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr. A. K. Crowe, members standing in silence as a mark of respect. A constitution, drawn up by the committee, was submitted and approved, and the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. F. A. Mason; president, Mr. D. C. Davey; vicepresidents, Messrs O. Doe) and N. Burdes (ex-teacliers), Mr. R. Robbie and Miss D. Pillar (present, teachers). Mr. M. Moffatt and Miss J. Francis (ex-pupils); hon. secretary, Miss J. Thynne; hon. treasurer, Miss M. Barron; committee, Messrs B. Moffatt, 1,. Thompson and A, Baird, Misses A, Barron, G. Coley and M. Moore; hon. auditor, Mr. W. M. Thomaa. Subsequently a dance was held, when a most enjoyable time was spent by the, large number present. Tito music was supplied by Mr. Bes. Mattar, extras being contributed by Mr. .T, Staff. A Monte Carlo dance was held, the lucky winners being Mr. J. Scott (Oroua Downs) and Miss J. Thynne. Supper was dispensed .by members of the committee, after which dancing was continued until a late hour. Ladies’ Golf. A match between the ladies of the Herrington and Hokowhitu Golf Clubs was played on the local links on Monday last, when the visitors were successful in defeating the local players. Dramatic Circle Farewell Member Tho fortnightly meeting of the Dramatic Circle of the Foxton Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs. J. M. Thomson, Thynne street, on Tuesday evening, when opportunity was taken to bid farewell to one of Its most popular members in the person of Mis 3 F. Wright, who is leaving the district shortly for the South Island. The leader, Mrs. D, R. Barron, spoke of the regret felt by the circle at losing one of its most able members and one who had endeared herself to one and all. Mrs. Barron then asked Miss Wright to accept a small gift from her fellow members in remembrance of the happy times spent together. Mrs. J. M. Thomson endorsed Mrs. Barron’s remarks and presented Miss Wright with a bouquet. Miss Wright thanked - tho circle, and said she had spent many happy hours with them and had rr.ado many friends which otherwise she may not have liad the opportunity of meeting. Supper was dispensed by Mrs. Thomson and Miss TJla Thomson and the singing of "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought a. most enjoyable evening to a close. Personal. The friends of Mr. G. Woods, of Russell street, will regret that he is still an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for foot injuries. Miss F. Wright, who for the past three years had been on the teaching staff of the Foxton District High School, has accepted an appointment at Tiinaru and will leave Foxton at the end of the month. Miss Wright’s departure will be regretted by all connected with tho scnool. Dorcas Society. There was a good attendance of members present at a meeting of the Foxton Dorcas Society. It was reported that as a result of an appeal to the public for clothing, etc., 13 parcels were received In May, and 15 were sent out. During June nine parcels had already been received, and ten sent out. Following is a list of those who sent in parcels:—Mesdames W. Barber, D. Christie, Mairs, F. Rallies, Hussey, S. Austin, Nockles. is. Gower, G. Fraser, D. Ogilvy, F. A. Mason, Misses Duncan and Weeks, and five anonymous.
