THIEF ESCAPES IN CAR. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. SYDNEY, June 16. An audacious robbery took place last night in Georgo street, which was densely crowded. Several men in an enclosed car stopped outside Angus and Cooto’s, a large jewellery shop. Ono man threw a brick, shattered the window, seized three trays of diamond rings, and rushed back to the car. He was about to get inside when a policeman appeared on tho scene. The men pointed something resembling a revolver at .him and leapt on tho running board. The car raced away and was lost in the traffic. The thieves escaped with £SOOO worth of diamond rings. After the constable had tried to jump on the running board of the car, further on a pedestrian was kuoeked down. He grabbed the front of the car and was carried some distance before he fell to the road, suffering slight injuries. Car Found Abandoned Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, June 17. The car used by the jewel thieves was found abandoned in Surry Hills, a suburb of Sydney. The car, which was stolen, contained empty trays. A reward of £250 has been offered for the recovery of the rings.
