When the Wanganui-Eangitikei Electric Power Board is erecting power lines in country districts, the settlers receiving the service are required to provide a guarantee to protect the board against loss, states the Herald. The necessity for this precaution wa3 made evident at a • meeting of the board on Thursday when it was stated that the Marybank line was not a paying proposition on account of some 80 per cent, of the farmers who had acted as guarantors ' having left their farms since the line was erected. Among the many pictures exhibited at the Manawatu Society of Arts’ display at the National Dairy Show, not the least interesting were those from the brush of Mr. H. Billens, sear., of Palmerston North. Now in his 89 th year, Mr. Billens continues to indulge in his favourite hobby with unabated enthusiasm, and four works shown by him were much admired by patrons of the gallery.
