Increased Thermal Activity at Rotorua
POIIUTU PLAYS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1931 Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Last Night. For the- first time since 1931, and apparently without a contributing cause, Pohutu geyser became active early this morning and played more or less regularly throughout the clay, throwing jets of steam and water as high as 100 feet in the air in bright sunshine. The sight attracted many visitors. Although Wailcite geyser, which had been flaying regularly, has died down, a considerab-c increase in thermal activity throughout the reserve is noticeable. The Prince of Wales’ Feathers also gave a spectacular display during the day, playing strongly immediately before the eruptions of Pohutu.
