On Wednesday last a very enjoyable dance was held in the school, organised by the social committee. Although there not a big attendance all those present admitted having had a gay evening. Mr. Nation was at tho piano and he also demonstrated old-timo dances. Miss B. Shanahan entertained with two humorous recitations. Messrs H. Schnell and P. Jensen were M.’sC. for the evening. The footballers travelled to Ballance on Saturday last and although they did their best their opponents proved a strong team. Mr. Humphries was referee. The game resulted in a win for Ballance by 17 to nil. Tho Ping Pong Club held Its weekly night on Tuesday last, there being a good attendance. Several ladder matches were played. In the ladies’ section Miss C. Evans was tho winner, and in the men's section, Mr. J. Evans. After supper, served by the ladies, a series of doubles was played. Great Interest is being taken In this club. A pleasant evening was spent in the school on Wednesday when a bridge evening was held under tho. auspices of the social committee. The winners for tlio evening were Mr. and Mrs. A. Turner. Supper was served and all enjoyed tho gathering. Mrs. D. Gtnnane, of Mangatalnoka, Is at present tho guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. McGlaslian. Mr. and Mrs. T. Baines returned last week on a visit after their honeymoon, before leaving for their home in Foi'AMr. and Mrs. H. Sellens left for their home in Wellington last week. Mr. and Mrs. P. Schnell spent the weekend at Feilding. Miss B. Thompson, accomapnied by her mother. Mrs. Thompson (Talhape), and Mr. H. Thompson are at present spending their vacation In Auckland. The local footballers did not disgrace themselves at the seven-a-sido tournament held in Pahlatua on Monday, being runners-up of their section. The local factory closed on Sunday.
