Wild Horses for Real Live Rodeo

Thrills and still rnoro thrills are promised those who patronise the Manawatu A. and P.i Show on the final day, Saturday, Juno 16, for the committee has decided to stage a miniature Wild AVest buckjumping competition with wild horses to be brought down from tho waybacks of the King Country; and (hat there will bo no dearth of riders is evident from the numerous applications from amateur "broncho busters" that havß come to hand from all parts of the':North Island. The event is going to prove very popular not only with the riders but also with the thousands who will be thcro to witness tho event. The competition starts at 1.30 p.m., and liberal prizes are being offered. Another unique feature of the show will be the band contest, which is also being held on Saturday, A numbar of bands will be competing and will parade from the Square at 2 p.m. and march to the Showgrounds, via Eangitikei aud Cuba streets, and the contest will bo held immediately on arrival. Tho selection, hymn test and solos, also quartets, will be held in the stadium in the evening, and a large attendance is anticipated. • Mr. T. Gocdall, of Wellington, has kindly consented to adjudicate in the afternoon as well as in the evening for the selections and hymn test, while Mr. A. J. Berryman, of Palmerston North, has offered his services as judge for the quartets and solos. Both these gentlemen arc experienced bandsmen of outstanding ability, and are widely known throughout New Zealand and Australia to lovers of band music. Members of the Defence Department have also kindly consented to give their services in the judging of tho marching section. The public is requested to attend both in the afternoon and evening and help to make this a huge success, thereby engendering a spirit of enthusiasm into tho venture.
