Ashhurst Hotel Seeks New Location

NO HOPE OF APPROVAL At yesterday’s annual meeting of the Oroua Licensing Committee at Fcilding Mr D. C. Cullinane, on behalf of the owners of the Masonic Hotel, Ashhurst, applied for an adjournment of an application for the shifting oi the premises on to the main highway, until the next quarterly meeting. The chairman (Mr J- L. Stout, S.M.) said that the Bench could not entertain such an adjournment, but was prepared to defer the matter loi twclvo months. He could not hold out any hope that the application would be approved, for, as far as he could see, the idea was to move the hotel to .a site on the main highway, and the Bench was against such a policy which might tend to increase the number of convictions of motorists driving ears while intoxicated. Mr ° Cullinane thereupon withdrew the application.
