MANAWATU AMATEURS

The Manawatu Amateur Cycling Club held its weekly road race on Wcdnesday, the course being to Bulls and return, a distance of 88 miles. Sixteen riders faced the starter and they had to face a stiff wind for the first 19 miles and a following wind for the rcmaidcr of tho distance. Tho front markers were still in the lead at the turn, and tho virtual scratch riders, R. Walker, Cl. Little and N. Hyde (3min.) had made up a lot of time on the limit men. In a fast ride home the virtual scratch men made the pace willing and after Sanson was reached Walker and Hyde left their co-markers and overhauled tho Strain. men at Mount Stewart. The limit men at this stage were still in front and riding well. Walker and Hyde were gaining on them fast, but Esau (12inin.) broke away from his co-markers about two miles from home and just crossed the line half a wheel ahead of Walker, who just failed to catch him.
