Fine Effort for Boys’ Sigh School Funds
A particularly enjoyable card afternoon, organised by Mrs John Murray, to augment the funds of the Parents’ Association of the Boys’ High School, was held at tho Boys' High School hostel yesterday. Mrs Murray had the assistance of the ladies’ committee and a number, of helpers, all of whom must have been very gratified that their efforts were crowned with such pleasing success. Twenty-four tables were occupied in the large dining-room, contract and auction bridge being the games chosen. Beforo play commenced Mrs Murphy expressed her appreciation of the large attendance. Delicious afternoon tea was served in the “prop.” room, also in the drawing room, both of which looked cosy with lovely log fires. Iceland popplics and autumn foliage, with beautiful branches of holly berries, made attractive decoration. At the conclusion of pi'ay Mr A. Grigor, chairman of the Parents’ Association, returned thanks to Sirs Murray and her assistants for organising the party to help tho funds. As a result of this very fine effort, nearly £.12 had been raised. He stressed the fact that the duty of the Parents’ Association was to get behind the school to make sure that its efficiency was not impaired as a result of reduced revenue. He then presented the prizes, Mrs Y. Monrad carrying off the contract bridge trophy and Mrs Babone the trophy for auction bridge. Members of tho committee assisting were Mesdamcs A. A. Langley, 11. Palmer, Forrest, G. A. Small, N. H. .Sinclair, F. A. Wollcrman and C. Louisson. Among those entertained at afternoon tea were "Mrs M. Aitcliison, a member of the High Schools’ Board of Governors; also Mrs A. .T. Graham. An apology for absence was received from Mrs ,T. A. Nash.
