From Our Own Correspondent. Senior Football. The first senior game for many years was played on the local ground last Saturday when the Hulas met Awahurl. Although conditions were not ideal quite a fair crowd of enthusiasts saw a keenly contested game end in favour of Awahuri by 17 points to 5. The game commenced by Huias (black) taking play down to Awahori’s (red) territory, Griffin being prominent. From an ensuing scrum, Governor, the Huia half back, secured, and cutting round the scrum scored a good try. Ward goaled. From the kick out the reds worked downfield and from a meiee near the line Sanson secured and raced over in the corner. Cribb failed with a difficult kick. Ifain now began to fall, making conditions particularly unpleasant. Shortly afterwards the reds began a passing rush. Sanson capping off. a .good movement to score near the corner. Cribb failed.—Awahuri 6—5. The second half saw the reds pressing hard. From a mark in front of the black goal t-larris put over a neat drop kick.— Awahuri it—s. Awahuri now started'to dominate the play, the red forwards taking play to the black line where Hancock secured to score. The kick failed. Keds again invaded black territory and I-lan'ra scored under the'posts. Cribb goaled.— Awahuri 17—5. The blacks now rallied but the red defence held, the game' ending shortly after with Awahuri the winners by 17 to 5. Mr. F. Moffatt refereed. The junior game played at Oroua Downs resulted in a draw, six all.
