MONTHLY SLEETING HELD. Mr. W, G. Black was in th 6 chair at the monthly meeting of the Central School Committee last evening. Others present were: Messrs, it. Tait, W. H. Cadwnllader, L. Simmons, A. Gordon, G. 11. Jarrett, W, Garden, C. Taylor and A. D. Kerslake (secretary). The City Council advised that it was unable to proceed with the tarring of Beresford street footpaths, but would otherwise put tho footpaths in order. The council also advised that it was unablo to furnish bicycle stafids at, the entrance to tho swimming baths, ihe chairman and Air. Taylor were appointed to interview the Mayor asking for further consideration of the matter. Tho headmaster, Mr. E. Bary, reported that for the last fortnight the attendances had greatly improved. The average for the present time tv as 7~0 aud tho present roll 791. Air. H. L. Kidson had been absent from the staff for sickness since October 27. He would not bo returning until the end of the year. Miss P. Hastings was tho relieving assistant. It was pleasing to report that Beaumont H. Pierard had won tho Firie scholarship for 1934. School work in connection with the gala, day was well in hand, It was recommended that tho annual spoit-s bs held on December 15. The headmaster also suggested that the cricket practice nets should now bo replaced, bow the renovation of the grounds was complete. Proficiency examinations would bo held on November 27, The report was adopted and the committee expressed sympathy with Mr, Kidson in his illness,. Messrs. Black, G'adwallader and Simmons were appointed delegates to the meeting of tho Manawatu-Oroua School Committees ’ Association. The remainder of the evening was chiefly devoted to a discussion of arrangements for tho forthcoming gala day, when a, most attractive programme will be offered.
