Fast Mile Recorded By Timaru Schoolboy
ALSO COVERS HALF-MILE IN GOOD TIME Per Press Association. TIMARU, Last Night. At tho Timaru High School sports on Saturday, V. P. Boot established a new Dominion mile record for a schoolboy of 4min 26 4-ssec, cutting 2 l-ssec off the time of Mathews, of Christchurch Technical College. Boot won the Lovelock cup, presented by old boys to commemorate the world mile record by J. E. Lovelock, a former pupil of the school. Boot also set up a New Zealand school record for half a mile of 2min, and established a new school record for tho quarter-mile of 52 l-ssec, in addition to winning the 120 yards hurdles championship. Altogether eight records were broken and two equalled during the meeting.
