horoeka The first birthday of Horoeka W.I. ■was hold in the schoolroom on October 20, when there was a record attendance. After tho singing of. the National Anthem and the Institute song, tho president, Airs Luut, in a happy speech gave a hearty welcome to all. Dancing, interspersed with items,, occupied the evening until supper time, tho items including sea songs in costume and Dutch scenes from 1 ‘Miss Ho ole of Holland,” which were enthusiastically recalled. Four of the younger members excelled in tho playettc, “The Pros and Cons of Matrimony, ’’ and. Mrs T. Whitta sang “Love is 'Meant to Make Us Glad,’’ and for an encore ‘‘Cabbage Eoses.” A novelty dip, won by Mrs Tozward, with paper hats, toys and sweets, proved most, popular and attractive. Mrs Clemens, the vice-president, presented the institute with a beautifully decor-, ated cake, and sho was called on to lightt he candle. The president, after cutting the cake, was presented with a lovely bouquet of roses and accorded musical honours. Tho accompaniments wero played by Mrs A. Gillam and Miss Thomas. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr G. Barker. Mr Burling kindly took charge of the floor. The .singing of “Auld Lang Sync” brought .to a close a successful and jolly pai'ty#
