Business Girls' lunch Club
ADDRESS BY MRS HULME At the Business Girls’ lunch at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s on Thursday Miss M. Galloway presided and welcomed as visitors Mrs Hulmc, Mrs J. Evans, Misses N. Stuart, W. Norman and W. McKay, the last three named being new members elected. Mrs Hulmc, the speaker for the day, referred to tho motto of tho club, ‘‘ln Friendship Bound,’’ and spoko of friendship as the greatest thing one could give or receive. From her long and varied theatrical experience Mrs Hulmo gave the members an insight into tho work attached to an amateur production, with many interesting side lights of tho work behind the scenes. In any society it -was necessary to have a committee composed of members witli an appreciation of the best, able to make the best selections to lit the performers. In the ease of the amateurs this was so much more important, remembering that they had perhaps only four or five nights in the year to get back all the expenses incurred. Many amusing incidents in her own experiences were given by Mrs Hulme. Speaking of tho Palmerston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (for which Mrs Hulme has filled tho position of producer for 12 years), Mrs Hulmc said it was one of the most financial societies in New Zealand. It was also interesting to note that Mrs 11. Palmer, who was a vice-president of the club, had been the society’s efficient wardrobe mistress over this long period.
Thanks were conveyed to Mrs Hulme by Miss Galloway. There were apologies from Mesdames M. H. Oram, A. E. Mansford and W. F. Day, also the Misses Grace.
